IBM X206M Server continuous beeps

Postby stephen » Wed Mar 31, 2010 11:08 pm

My IBM X206M server was making a continuous beeping noise ie every seconds a beep comes out of the server, which only starts once Windows SBS Server 2003 has reached the logon screen. I have proved below that the noise is coming from the operating System not the hard

Tried this:
One fix I tried was to reboot the Server go into the BIOS and delete the BMC Log which had 176 entries.
I think the beeping was telling me that the BMC log area was full.

However this was only temporary. The beep even transferred to a new machine when I moved the server Hard Disk into another PC and the beeping noise transferred to that PC.

I found an article on how to disable beeping,

3. From the View menu, select Show hidden devices.
4. Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers.
5. Right-click Beep, and select Properties.
6. Select the Drivers tab.
7. Click Stop. You can also change the start-up type to Disabled so th

This article explains 4 differnet methods to disable beeping including command line options

The Server lasted another week then completely died. I never did find why it was beeping. As the Server was 6 years old we replaced it with a new server.
