add a HP Printer to AIX Pronto

1. set an ip address on the printer
2. edit /etc/hosts and enter name and ip address for printer
3. run smit
Devices
Printer/Plotter
Print Spooling
Add a Print Queue
hpJetDirect
Hewlett Packard
Other
generic Generic Printer
do not make this a bootp/tftp Server
Names of New Print Queue to add
PCL Emulation [queuename]
HOSTNAME [hostname]
PORT 9100
press ENTER
the above adds an entry in the /etc/qconfig file for the queue and device
4. Add a pronto printer name in the pronto system pointing to the queue name
vi /pro/pronto/lib/printers
5. You may need to set up a new printcap printer definition.
vi /pro/pronto/lib/printcap
6. There is a place in Pronto where you can manipulate the forms.
This is some notes regarding various PCL codes which may help decode the printcap file
