access denied to My Documents

access denied to My Documents

Postby stephen » Fri Sep 21, 2007 4:10 pm

I had a PC that would not boot It would Blue Screen and give STOP: 00007E
error.

Tried repair install did not fix problem.

Used the HP Recovery Partition to recover Windows XP Home

Could now boot up but could not access the My Documents under the previous login used I had a message access denied.

To fix
Find a PC that has Windows XP Pro and is connected to a Windows Server Domain,
1 Remove the drive and place into a Windows XP Pro system either as a second drive or in a USB external case

2. browse to the Documents and Settings and the user folder
right click select Security, and change the owner to Administrator
and tick apply to sub directories
then right click and give everyone full access to the folder.

3. Take the drive and put it back in the original PC
and you can access the files in the My Documents of the original user.
