"System Alert: Malware Threats."

I have a yellow shield on the task bar that says
I've got the pop up that keeps saying "System Alert: Malware Threats."

How to get rid of it?

I managed to install Symantec NIS 2009
and I downloaded the current updates on another computer and applied them to the problem computer

Then from safe mode I ran a Norton full system scan that found many trojans and removed them.

The PC is virus free
however the problem now is that DNS is not working.
It is possible to ping ip addresses and get replies but not domain names, cannot resolve the domain name.

To determine why a TCP/IP connection to a remote computer stops responding, use the
Code: Select all
 netstat -a
command to show the status of all activity for TCP and UDP ports on the local computer.
