I had a PC that was riddled with spyware and viruses. It had Norton Internet Security 2005 installed but it did not seem to protect this PC.

The PC would not boot up in normal mode. I could get it to boot in Safe mode.

I removed the drive and placed it as a 2nd drive in a clean PC.

Then I ran AVG Virus Scan and removed the dozens of viruses.
Then I ran AVG Antispyware and removed the multitude of spyware from the drive.
I placed the drive back into the original PC and I could now get it to boot normally.

But PC after log in the Windows reports an error and wants to send a file to Mr Gates. and it keeps repeating the error.

The details of the error contains these two lines
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini120101-15.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\LOGINNAME~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

I followed instructions from
http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/8407.html

The fix was to
Delete all the files in the c:\windows\minidump subdirectory
Defragmented the hard drive

Norton Internet Security does not seem to want to work so I uninstalled the program.

And as the client loves Norton Internet Security (I do not know why) I reinstalled Norton Internet Security.

Now I have a nice system that works OK.
