IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP: 0x0000000A

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP: 0x0000000A

My clients PC has a Blue Screen of Death
when he does a shutdown

I have updated the Intel Motherboard BIOS
Updated the Video Driver
changed the memory

still have the BSOD on Shutdown

After many many hours of research the
Solution: I did a repair install from the original Windows XP SP 1 CD and the problem is fixed.
All I can say is the problem must have occurred during one of Microsoft Updates for Service Pack 2.
PS see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 929338 for the solution for XP SP2

0x0000000A IRQL_NOT_ LESS_OR_EQUAL. A bad driver usually causes this error. Contact the manufacturer of the device that is causing the problem or visit its Web site for an updated or correct driver.

Extract from http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#Boot_or_shutdown_problems_after_Service_Pack_2_installation WinXP Problem Solver:

IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP: 0x0000000A can be caused by Nero InCD 4300. A side effect is that, very strangely, you cannot boot in safe mode, but you can boot in normal mode. You can try to update InCD to the latest version. There are conflicting reports about version 4303. If you keep having the problem, uninstall the program altogether.

Scroll down to "General Blue Screen of Death information" and see if there is anything helpful in there. Just in case it happens again.

Also from michna.com web site
I am going to try this (PS. It did not fix my problem)
Data Execution Prevention prevents complete booting or shutting down

To disable DEP, you have to make a change to the BOOT.INI file in the root of the partition from which the computer boots. To get Windows to run, your only choice is now safe mode. To boot into safe mode, press F8 a few times after the BIOS has finished its booting and Windows begins to load. Once you have booted into safe mode, use these steps:

* Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.
* Click on the Advanced tab.
* Click on the third buttonâ€â€ÂÂ

On Shutdown IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAl

Postby stephen » Mon Apr 23, 2007 6:32 pm

I replaced the Intel Motherboard CPU and RAM on the computer with a new Intel Motherboard and CPU and Ram,

But the system still gives the blue screen of death on shutdown.

I have disabled the Memory Dump Option so we do not have to wait for a memory dump to occur.

I have tried updating Video and Sound drivers but this has not helped.

Microsoft have a page on this problem
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314063

I might try a repair install of Windows.

I will not download any Microsoft updates as I would not want to go through this drama again.
