Windows XP PC will boot normally to show user account names.
Then the screen just goes black.
PC is a ASUS P5VD2-MX Motherboard.
Tried Memory test Pass
Tried replacing HDD No change to problem
Boot into Safe mode is OK.
While in safe mode uninstall the Video driver which is a VIA/S 3G UniChrome Pro IGP chipset
Boot into normal windows mode the screen is using the default video driver
login
As the PC logs in it crashes
When the PC crashes it now shows
Blue Screen Stop 7E
in VSAPINT.SYS module
I searched the web for the above errors and found the problem is related to Trend Micro Anti-Virus program
as described here
http://www.c-bit.org/frame.ms-faq/Q/307975/EN-US/
I went into Safe Mode
ran MSCONFIG
and disabled the Trend Micro Services and Startup items so that I could get the PC to start normally
Started the PC in Normal mode
I uninstalled Trend Micro Anti Virus
Downloaded the latest version
and reinstalled Trend Micro Antivirus
Installed the Latest updates to Trend Micro Anti Virus and Windows
The PC seems to working OK now.
Postscript
This PC showed further problems in the following months.
Issues where the SAMSUNG 500Gb Hard Disk kept giving disk errors

The final solution was to replace the Hard Disk with SEAGATE drive
replace the Motherboard with an INTEL motherboard
and replace the RAM.
